GUIDED READING

This is a school-based program currently being developed for children from our partner schools. Guided reading will take place in small groups, with children initially assessed to determine their reading abilities and grouped accordingly. Relevant texts will be assigned, keywords introduced, and activities prepared to support engagement with the story. Interactive discussions around plot, setting, theme, and characters will help deepen comprehension.

Each child receives individual attention from a guided reading leader to improve decoding (turning written words into spoken words) and comprehension (understanding the text and being able to speak or write about it). The program will also include planned training for classroom reading teachers to support and sustain reading development in their schools.
